I was in the kitchen, listening to an album

So going back to my post on 5th January, and naming some names, the Decemberists album had stopped playing, and then the Sea of Bees album stopped playing. Strange enough, but you might think I was mistaken. Or it was a chance glitch. But no.

I don't drive often, as I cycle everywhere, but when I do drive I listen to music. Lately I'd been splitting my time between Sea of Bees and Braids. That's how I knew that Sea of Bees was playing fine: I'd played it on pretty much every journey I'd done between September and Christmas. In between listening to Braids.

So imagine my surprise when, whilst cooking today for a very special guest, I put on the Braids album, and randomly, at some point during each song, it would skip to the next track. In the words of one of the songs on the album, fucked up. Illogically, the tracks are also skipping on the iPad, even though I don't remember synching it recently. Although I notice they are less liable to jump to the next track on iPad/iTunes, and more likely to sound like someone has rammed a biro into a tape player.

So one by one, iTunes is mashing up my albums. One album at a time, but every track on it. Maybe it's because I haven't bought them off iTunes yet. Which is clever. And another great example of how Apple stuff just works.

Rate This

I opened Kingdom Rush on the iPad, as would any sane fellow. I was asked if I wanted to rate it. Yes, I replied. Dutifully the game shut down, mindful of the true nature of iOS "multitasking". Alas the App Store was not as good as its word, and summarily closed before it had even opened. But that's okay, because that way it looks like Kingdom Rush is buggy, rather than iOS.

And that's the kind of conclusion that everyone can enjoy. Because the thing you have to remember about Apple stuff is this - it just works.

I was in the car, listening to an album

I was in the car, listening to an album, let's call it Album 1, on my iPod. At some point during each song, it would skip to the next track. Occasionally it wouldn't skip, but would make a noise, like tape getting mangled in a cassette player. I had recently reset my iPod, switched laptops and copied everything over; I guessed that the files had got corrupted. Reluctantly I switched to Album 2, which was fine.

A couple of weeks later I was on my bike, listening to Album 2. At some point during each song, it would skip to the next track. Occasionally it wouldn't skip, but would make a noise, like tape getting mangled in a cassette player.

But that's the thing about Apple stuff... it just works.

App Store

I switched on my iPad. I opened the App Store. It flashed on the screen, and then disappeared.

But that's the thing about Apple stuff... it just works.
